What is positive intelligence?

Over the next seven weeks, I am taking part in the PQ Coaching Grant Progamme, learning about Positive Intelligence (PQ): what it means, the science and research behind it, and how I can use it to support my coaching clients.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing what I’m learning on my LinkedIn and Instagram pages, and tips and tricks to help you build up your own positive intelligence.

So, what is it? 🤔

Positive Intelligence (PQ) is an approach that empowers individuals to enhance their mental fitness, boosting resilience and productivity.

At its core, PQ introduces the concept of us having different characters or voices in our heads that impact how we behave and live our lives.

On the one side is our "Sage" – an internal guide that steers us away from self-sabotaging thoughts. Picture it as having a personal coach within your mind, offering wisdom and perspective to navigate challenges. Your Sage will help you deal with challenges productively, and help you see difficult situations as a gift and opportunity.

However, on the flip side are the "Saboteurs" – negative thoughts and behaviors that hinder personal and professional growth. These are the voices inside us that send us spiraling when we encounter a challenge, and create blocks that stop us from growing as much as we could.

We all have a Sage, and we all have Saboteurs.

Positive Intelligence equips you with tools to recognise and counteract your saboteurs when they come out, and to help the Sage to take the lead more quickly, allowing a more constructive and optimistic mental environment.

It’s not about toxic positivity or wishful thinking. Negative emotions still exist, negative experiences will still happen. It’s about building up the mental strength and resilience to cultivate a lasting positive mindset to deal with it.

By understanding your cast of saboteurs and how to recognise and resist them, your Sage can be activated more quickly, leading to increased resilience, improved relationships, and heightened performance in various aspects of life.

And follow me on LinkedIn and Instagram to see how my own journey with positive intelligence unfolds!

I am two weeks into the course and the learning is currently inward-facing - getting to know my Sage and my sneaky cast of Saboteurs. When I understand how PQ looks and feels for me, have experience building up my own tools and seeing the benefit, basically ‘walking the walk’, I will be better able to help my clients understand and use it in their own lives. Let's go!
